Why is new better than old? [plant bodies]

Published on: 23rd November 2017

Have you heard that conspiracy theory? It’s not exactly about plant bodies, but it’s still relevant.

I’m talking about the one where people say ‘nothing built these days is made to last’.

And then they bring out the car example, ‘cars made decades ago were built to last for ages but those manufactured these days are specifically built with weaknesses, so they will need renewing in a few years’ time.

I appreciate how that reasoning came about.  But what if renewing every few years’ time is a good for your company?  Let me explain why it’s so important that when you are considering any capital expenditure such as your truck fleet, you keep an open mind to all options.

Safety Walkway System

  1. Health & Safety – Meeting Current Regulations

To say it’s important is an understatement.  Not only does it create a safe work environment for everyone concerned, but it protects you and your company – if it’s done right.  Your plant bodies may not be up to the work you are putting them to i.e. not having the right deck for the machinery you use causing slippage, not having the right safety systems to prevent falling or failing hydraulics.   All of these could contribute to a potential accident, which would be preventable by investing in a new truck or potentially a new fleet of plant bodies.

  1. Limiting Downtime Costs

There comes a time when you must evaluate the downtime costs and constantly fixing your old fleet of plant bodies compared to new trucks which run with little to no problems.  Servicing and buying new parts can be costly, and given analysis you may find that it is financially beneficial to invest in new plant bodies rather than keep running the old one.

  1. Innovations

All manufacturers are bringing out newer and improved versions of their products.  Sometimes the improvements are gimmicky and are not worth considering just because it’s the latest edition, but here at Sterling, innovating is what we do best.  We are always seeking to bring the best solution to the market to improve your efficiency and downtime rates.

  1. Aesthetics – Supporting Your Brand

These days every marketer is banging on about how important it is to establish your brand, but it’s so true!  Presenting yourself as successful helps to bring new business your way and helps you to become recognised in the market.  Of course, it must be done wisely and strategically but new plant bodies (with your brand colours and signwriting) transporting your fleet, makes you memorable.

So there you have it.  In some cases running or purchasing older plant bodies is the best option for a company, especially if the expenditure is too much.  But it is always important to analyse both options, so it gives your company the opportunity to succeed.  With that in mind why not look at the plant bodies we offer?

Case Study

"I was impressed with the experience of working with Sterling Mixers, from the start they were proactive and helpful to deal with. We received the truck in only around 4 weeks from placing the order, painted in our colours. It looks great and is a vital tool for our growth and investment plans. Very happy with Sterling and their product."
